The client was looking for an entertainment center that was more furniture than built in cabinetry. We worked with designer Michelle Mirrielees of M Square Design, in Oak Park to develop the piece shown. The client wanted a simple, sleek design to house A/V equipment. The unit is built using rift sawn white oak veneer and stainless steel. One challenge was to find a way to hide the television and associated equipment when not being used, but at the same time to allow for ventilation and not block the side speakers when the doors are open. To solve this problem, the upper doors slide to the sides on built in tracks, opening up the center television section. Stainless steel mesh panels allow the speakers to operate when the doors are in the open position. The mesh panels are centered on the fixed shelves that hold the speakers. Matching mesh panels at the bottom allow ventilation for the A/V components and visually unify the overall design.
